After staying in super low budget hotels during our travels on the mainland of Southeast Asia we decided to pay a bit more in Kuala Lumpur. For 3 nights we stayed in the Regalia complex for 25 USD per night in an apartment with two bedrooms. If you haven't heard of the place, it’s known for its infinity pool on the 37th floor with views of the skyline. But is it really worth paying that much if you are on a backpacking budget? Angkor Wat and Siem Reap
We could not go to Southeast Asia without paying a visit to Angkor Wat. This Unesco World Heritage Site is definitely one of the man-made wonders of the world. The cheapest way for us to get here was a flight from Danang to Kuala Lumpur, our destination after Cambodia and from there a return flight. Vietnam was really cheap, so Siem Reap was quite a shock to us. On the first day we had to pay right away 30 USD for three nights in the hotel and … [Read more...] about Angkor Wat and Siem Reap

Vietnam – Busy Cities, Islands and amazing Caves

Once we reached this area we rewarded ourselves with a typical Pho soup dinner and a 25 cent beer. Cat Ba Island The next day we got up early to see the city … [Read more...] about Vietnam – Busy Cities, Islands and amazing Caves
One Day visiting the caves in Phong Nha
One of our favorite destinations in Vietnam was Phong Nha with its famous caves. After we arrived really early with our overnight bus we were not really sure what and how we can see with our limited budget. Luckily we found out that the Easy Tiger Hostel has a free chat every day at 9 am where they explain the main sights and the best way to see them. The guide told us that it's not worth booking a tour. You loose all the flexibility and will pay … [Read more...] about One Day visiting the caves in Phong Nha
Cat Ba the best way to see Halong Bay
One of the highlights of a trip to Vietnam is a boat tour to world famous Halong Bay. We were really sceptical because of how popular the limestone islands are and the prices suggested in the lonelyplanet. The most common tour recommended is a 2D1N trip and that one should expect poor quality when booking something for less than 130 USD. Because 260 USD was way over our budget we looked for alternatives and found Cat Ba Island. Here´s our trip … [Read more...] about Cat Ba the best way to see Halong Bay
